A native of Chicago, David was strongly influenced by the innovation and styles of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson and Andrae Crouch. David played in Chicago area churches, which led to him playing for the award winning production of “Ella… First Lady of Song” at Black Ensemble Theater. Upon moving south to Jacksonville, David hooked up with a group called C 1 Jazz and performed around the Jacksonville area including the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and Jacksonville’s Memorial Stadium where they opened for Earth, Wind and Fire. When C1 disbanded, David and a two other members, Carlos Peterson and Jesse Reyes got together and started the Groov. As a lead saxophonist David has performed as a guest artist or with the Groov at Orlando area venues such as the College Park Jazz festival with singer Jackie Jones, the first Annual Sanford Jazz Festival and Altamonte Springs Art Festival. Other venues include Jacksonville Beaches Jazz Festival and Palatka Jazz Weekend to name a few. David continues to stay close to his church roots and is the saxophonist for Impact Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
